If You Love It! Do It!: Meet Chyna the Young Trailblazer Chasing Her Dreams

Young, black, intelligent, and gifted, are only a few of the many words you could use to describe Fort Wayne native Miss Chyna Fowlkes. Upon getting the chance to interview with Fowlkes, I learned that she was not only very well-mannered, but she was also well spoken and passionate. At just 13 years old she owns and operates a successful business by the name of Glossed By Chy with the help and guidance of her mother, Chelsey.

At 5 years old, a young Fowlkes received lip gloss from almost all of her family and friends for her birthday. She was passionate about lip gloss and she made it known to everyone she loved. It was around this time that the initial spark and love for lip gloss happened for Fowlkes and as she grew older, her mother noticed that this love never really diminished. One day, Fowlkes confided in her mother telling her that her goal was to one day start her own brand and sell lip gloss. That was all her mother needed to hear to start researching, sampling, and putting together a brand for her daughter.

In 2019 Glossed By Chy made its debut and took family, friends and social media by storm. During this time Fowlkes and her mother were advertising, selling, and communicating with customers on social media and at vendor events. They were doing great but they wanted to make it official by registering their brand and name and creating their own site. In 2022, this dream became a reality and Glossed By Chy became an official business but Fowlkes and her mother didn’t stop there, they also launched their official website www.glossedbychy.com.

This was an amazing achievement for Fowlkes but I am happy to say it surely won’t be her last. Glossed By Chy currently offers 14 glamourous shades of gloss: Adel, Aura Crystal, Barbie, Bratz, Blue Rose, Dream Bubble, Girly, Kiya, Midnight, Pinky, Purple Glitz, Queen, Rich and Zuri. Glossed By Chy also carries two different size bonnets and the business will have jackets available for purchase soon. Fowlkes goal is to add more beauty products and apparel to her line in the future.

Fowlkes is business savvy and determined, as she continues to expand her brand and business. She is open to attending vendor events both in Fort Wayne and in Georgia where she currently resides. Fowlkes is also open to distributing her products for resell in stores! She lit up as she explained that her goal is to become a successful woman and inspire others to be successful too. When asked what advice she had for other who might want to start a business Fowlkes answered that she would tell others to follow their own steps whether they were inspired by themselves or someone else and most importantly if you love it, do it, because anything is possible!

Outside of being a successful girl boss, like many other teenagers her age, Fowlkes loves sports, from basketball to softball and track, she plays sports for both her school and fun! With so much going for herself and so much life ahead of her it was refreshing to see that while successful Fowlkes and her family remain humble and giving praise!
