Rev. Stewart Speaks: Can you hear me now?

Can you hear that? It’s the sound of the rain. I woke up from what seemed to be a nightmare recently. In the dream, I was in a maze and was blindfolded. I had to listen for the familiar voice of a loved one to make it out safely. When I woke up, I was panting and struggling to breathe. It was as if the dream was a reality. Talk about scary.
I woke up from this dream asking God for some clarity. What was it that God wanted me to be attentive to? I did some praying and reflecting the days following in hopes that God would speak to me about this.
In my praying, God reminded me that life was full of unknowns. Life can feel like a maze that we are blindly walking through. There may be obstacles in our path that cause us to trip; however, we have a guide. The Holy Spirit guides and leads us through all circumstances of life. It is the voice of the Lord that we must listen to in order to be led safely to the other side of life’s struggles.
In my sermon a few weeks ago, I talked about how many of us have come to rely on Google Maps and our GPS to get us from point A to point B. When we plug in the address, we don’t ask the GPS to bypass the “bad” side of town. All we simply do is follow the voice that we hear. If the voice says “turn left”, we often ask, “how soon” and not why. Can you relate?
I sincerely believe that the Lord who is our God wants to also be our guide. He wants us to rely solely on His voice, His leading, and His direction in all aspects of our lives. God desires that we depend on His voice when the storms of life are raging and when we can’t see an end in sight to our troubles. God desires for us to be so attuned to His voice that a stranger’s voice we won’t follow.
I wonder whose voice you have been listening to lately. Is it the person on Social Media with the most followers? Is it the family member who you are striving to please? God is trying to get our attention. I can hear Him clearly asking each of us at this moment, “Can you hear me now”?
Be blessed.
