Single Woman Chronicles The StagePlay Comes to Fort Wayne
By Tabitha Ervin,
Editorial Director
Charbria Shine, born and raised in Gary, now living in Merrillville is excited to start an Indiana tour of her stage play, Single Woman Chronicles. She has had an interest in the arts since she was very young from singing and dancing to now acting and writing. She started on this journey a few years ago with a Single & Satisfied movement online as she was in her single season and she wanted to encourage other women. She not only had a blog but hosted improv monologues on YouTube called Single Woman Chronicles for several weeks. From that she wrote a book and then a stage play in a month (all credit to God, Shine says) where she is the lead actress, director and producer. We were able to connect via zoom to talk about her accomplishment as well as when and where the play will debut here in Fort Wayne.
Ervin: Thanks for taking time to chat today! So tell me about the play and how you got here.
Shine: Well, I have always loved acting and after hosting my online ministry it quickly turned into a book then stage play that I wanted to share with the world. And since I hadn’t found many plays I wanted to act in, I took this opportunity to dust my acting skills off.
Ervin: This is amazing so how have you been able to be the lead actress and direct?
Shine: My now husband and I (I know, I was single when all of this started) lead a production company and he supports by co-directing so when I am doing parts he is directing. He supports my heart and vision so it’s been great. We actually ended up engaged when the book was coming out, we had met previously through a mutual friend and he lived 12 hours away.
Ervin: So what made you turn the online ministry into a book then stage play?
Shine: I’ve been a singer, song writer and actor for a while so it was a natural progression. I wanted the story to be focused on the stigmas associated with being single as a female and getting “older”, faith and more. There is something for everyone in the play from comedy, to laughter and maybe even some tears. I think everyone will identify with something in the play.
Ervin: How have you been successful in this journey?
Shine: I think having a great team of people around me and supporting the vision helps. I have been able to focus on self care at times and work at other times. My team loves and supports me and has my back.
Ervin: This is great and what does the future look like for you and your production company?
Shine: I already have Single Woman Chronicles 1 and 2 in the works and I even have some things lined up for the next 5 years or so. In between acting, writing and directing, I also lead concerts and events where I sing as well. In the future we also look to expand into other cities like Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta Texas, St. Louis and more!
Ervin: So when and where is the show here in Fort Wayne and how do people find out more?

Single Woman Chronicles tells Kera Kensington’s story, a young woman who is obsessed with love and marriage to her detriment but through a series of events she finds healing, wholeness and life again after a devastating breakup.
The play follows Kera and her best friends Mercedes and Tatiana whose experiences with men challenge their self worth, faith and identity. With “real talk” monologues and fun tunes this play challenges the stigmas associated with being a single woman.
