Track and Field Dreams-Genesis Anderson
By Tabitha Ervin,

Genesis is a 9 year old 4th grader who is also a track star! I was able to catch up with her and her mom, Kearra Anderson, to discuss her season this year and her most recent win at the AAU National Track and Field Meet in Greensboro, North Carolina which took place July 30-August 6. Genesis is a very kind and hard working young lady I’ve had the pleasure of knowing as a coach with the Xcelerate Summer track club in its second season led by head coach BiJay Stephens and his sister Kelsey Stephens along with several other local coaches. The club supports athletes of all ages recreationally and competitively. The program focuses on the progression and development of athletes in the local area ranging from 6-18 years old.
How long have you been running? 2 years
What do you like about it? The competition and racing against others.
What’s your favorite race? The 100 meter dash
(She runs the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4*100 relay and long jumps)
What other sports do you play or like? I play basketball, run cross country and do gymnastics. I also like tennis.
What are some of your other non-sports interests? I like listening to music, reading and math.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a physical therapist.
Genesis mom, Kearra says she’s been a high honor roll or honor student for the last several years. She told me that Genesis has always been athletic and would run around on the sidewalk when she was 3 to see how fast she was.

Genesis recently became an All American by getting 4th place in the long jump with a jump of 12’11”. She says she enjoyed the National meet, the people and the athletes she ran against. Genesis has told her mom that she wants to be an Olympian one day and Mom says she will continue to support her dreams! Genesis also wants to run in college, along with her dream of being a physical therapist, she wants to help people in the community who are homeless.
Congratulations to Genesis for being an All American and for her success so far on the track!
