I was recently able to connect with Julie Sanchez about her current work with her new business, Expert Business Solutions LLC (EBS) launched in December 2019 and was completely inspired and blown away by what she is doing, has done and her plans for 2023 and beyond!
Julie moved to Fort Wayne at the age of 2 and has been a resident since then. Her parents were both educators, her father once a principal at Weisser Park turned pastor of Kings Chapel Assembly and her mother a director at HeadStart modeled service and sacrifice in their work to young Julie. Her husband is also a pastor and a chaplain with the Fort Wayne Police Department. Julie is also involved in the ministry and is a skilled organist. As she started her entrepreneurial journey, all of her former experiences influenced her way forward and her ability to help and serve others. She remembers someone looking at her resume as she was asking them what she could do next as she left her previous job and this person pointed out her value and encouraged her that she could do whatever she put her mind to! It was with that encouragement that she began her next journey into entrepreneurship. She let her experiences and passions with her God given talents guide her forward.
Ervin: Julie please tell me about your new business!
Sanchez: I am a Black female entrepreneur who is an executive coach that provides coaching to honor, support and advance Black professional women. I also have provided support for early business entrepreneurs and have started to work in the DEI space under racial equity.
In addition to coaching, I am currently working with FWCS to provide coaching and support/consultation to their DEI team. In August I recently finished working with the NIIC (Northeast Indiana Innovation Center) to help underestimated leaders start their own business through a grant from Foellinger.
I have used my former professional background to be a foundation that is allowing me to follow my heart's passion - to advocate and support Black professionals/people and underestimated individuals. My business will turn three years old in December, and I am just at the beginning stage of what I hope it will grow up to be.
Ervin: This is excellent and sounds like a great start to your entrepreneurial journey!
Sanchez: I feel blessed to be able to let my passion lead me in this part of my life and I am really passionate about advocating, supporting and helping to advance black people, specifically women.
Ervin: Tell me about your work with the NIIC?
Sanchez: They originally brought me in for a diversity perspective for a new program they were starting with a Foellinger grant and I ended up being able to help lead the program which focused on minority entrepreneurs called BreakThrough-Breaking Barriers, Inspiring Business Builders. The program included information on how to start a business as well as specific coaching to help people overcome barriers. As I have been an entrepreneur, I realize you can’t ask a marginalized population to pull itself up by its boot straps but those with influence and power must help and bring us into the room. I was able to mentor and model as well as work alongside those in the program as I was building my own business at the same time.
Ervin: This is amazing and per the Youtube videos and stories of participants it sounds like the program was a great success! Congrats! Tell me more about what you are looking to do in 2023.
Sanchez: I am looking to get more into Executive Coaching for black women specifically as well as utilize my platform to have Real Talk conversations for professional women who need a safe space. I hosted one already and I am looking to do more in the new year. This platform will be a space to gain support and validation along with pooling resources so we can all thrive. I want black women to know they don’t have to play small. I will utilize my life experiences as I coach and support women in the challenging times we continue to face.
