Business Spotlight: Wayne Kelly X-Five-O Solutions
We as Americans have continued to experience mass shootings in churches, grocery stores and sadly elementary schools that hold our future leaders- doctors, lawyers, teachers, social workers and more. As a parent of an elementary school student, the recent incident at Robb Elementary in Texas caused my heart to drop into the pit of my stomach during the school day when that breaking news alert buzzed on my Apple Watch. Similarly, as the daughter of a Mother who loves stores like Sam's Club and Hollywood Market, in my hometown, the shooting in Brooklyn, NY felt really scary to me as well.
We have all experienced levels of emotion from sadness to fear, anger and other emotions as we review the various mass shootings and how many years Americans have continued to experience them. Thoughts like when will it end, why does this keep happening and why needs to change so this doesn’t keep happening. I could list the numbers and places and even names but we can all look that information up on the internet.
In the height of the Robb Elementary shooting, Wayne Kelly, owner of X-Five-O Solutions came to our Ink Spot staff meeting to discuss his services and his recently attained certificate in an active shooter training from Avert Training. From the website: When active violence occurs, seconds count, and you can't always wait for EMS to arrive. Our training enables you to become an immediate responder. Once reserved for only emergency personnel, the AVERT program teaches active violence response training to a general audience.
Wayne, born and raised in Fort Wayne, is a retired police officer who worked for the police force for 27 years. After retiring, he dabbled in church security and moved into dignitary protection and private security for celebrities who traveled to Fort Wayne. At this point the work was hit or miss and he had not made it an official business. He also started a small team at his church for security protection during that time. I was able to chat with Wayne and ask a few questions about his new business, X-Five-O Solutions whose mission states: We can’t always prevent accidents and disasters, but we can be prepared for how we’ll respond. Learn more about planning communication, and other tips that will help your organization respond well. Ervin: Thanks for chatting today. So tell me why you started this business?
Kelly: With everything I had experience and knowledge in and with my love of the community, I decided to create a company where I can support churches, businesses and individuals with a variety of trainings.
Ervin: What training do you offer?
Kelly: We offer 1st aid, CPR and AED certifications as well as BLS (basic life support) training and support with Emergency plans and preparation in addition to the Active Shooter training.
Ervin: Tell me more about the Active Shooter training?
Kelly: I like to first tell people that this training will not prevent an incident but will help people to be better prepared in the case of an active shooter. As things have evolved with church shootings and other mass shootings, I decided to get a certification from Avert to be able to support our community better. This training helps learn better situational awareness, signs of a threat and it also teaches response procedures including Escape, Evade, Attack along with Emergency Stop the Bleed Training Techniques.
Ervin: Thank you for sharing about this training with the community! How can people connect with you to ask questions and book their training?
