At the 73rd Freedom Fund Banquet, located at the Walb Student Union at Purdue University Fort Wayne, the local NAACP (Branch #3049) held its annual gala named after Marjorie D. Wickliffe (1895-1992) for her more than seven decades of loyal and devoted service to the NAACP and social justice.
According to the local NAACP, “she saw the inequities in employment and education as infringement upon everyone’s civil rights. She did not wait for someone else to right the wrongs. She joined and co-founded organizations for that purpose. She stood steadfast to the seemingly insurmountable obstacles that lay ahead.”
“Just as the legacy of NAACP, she worked across racial, cultural, and faith boundaries.”
Recognized at the Freedom Fund event for their community work and community betterment included: Jerome Ride, James Burgess, Ellis Funeral Home, Benny Fair, Thomas Brownlee (Thomas Brownlee and Sons Market), Greg Copeland (Copeland Contracting, Inc.), E and M Tire Inc., Foundation, Trent Jones (Jones Auto Repair’s Body Shop), Link’s Wonderland, Isaac Perry (Perry’s Carpet Cleaner), Roger’s Barbershop, William Darnell Miller (Starlight Photography), Thelma Russell (T-Lou’s Alterations and Sewing), Edna and Edward Smith (Frost Illustrated).
