Deshawn Moore, publisher of Moore Gospel Magazine and digital interview hostess, and beauty influencer, wanted to act since she was around age seven but she’s never really had the opportunity to build a resume.  “You have to have credits, you have to credibility,” Moore said.  Although she didn’t know him at the time, a director out of Chicago started following her social media feeds and began to like random posts. Deshawn interviewed celebrities on her radio show so it wasn’t out of the ordinary for someone nationally to notice her work.  One day though, the director sent a message to Deshawn; he was looking to cast his new web series and wanted Deshawn to audition.

She couldn’t make her Chicago audition in person so she sent a video version; they loved her delivery and she won a reoccurring supporting role in the web series called “Meet Karma,” that’s set to start filming its second season in March, in the Windy City.  “It’s interesting because when you’re a new actor, you may get one episode, maybe two,” said Moore, who briefly hinted at bigger networks, without naming names, already showing interest in the idea.

The show revolves around a psychiatrist who proactively (and electric-chair criminally) helps her clients.  “She’s kind of psychotic,” Moore said, with a laugh, about the lead in the suspense series, with a diverse cast working for a good roster of African-American producers.

Deshawn has about a month until she’ll start receiving scripts for the show.  She’ll be the first to admit that she’s never taken any acting classes so in the interim, it’s all about practice. To study, she’s going over monologues in a mirror, reading books.  “I love acting and they say I’m a natural, but everybody needs help,” she said.

She’s being mentored by some big names: actress and acting coach, Christine Horn (“The Haunting of Hill House” and “Lethal Weapon”), Charles Clark (“Empire”), and Thea Camara (“Chi-Raq”), and actress, Kathleen Blade-Owens, (Meet Karma and Founder of Actors in Action).

Actor Terrance Howard (“Iron Man,” “Empire”) mentioned something “amazing that worked so well,” she said.  He said, “all you have to do is make eye contact.  Your response is going to be natural playing off someone else’s response.  And when I do that, it’s like the character comes alive.”

Moore is presuming a weekly shooting schedule for the show.  Definitely booked for July 2019, Moore will host the Rhythm of Gospel Awards in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The awards show is the third top independent gospel award show in the country and will air on the Impact Network.  She’s also nominated for two Rhythm of Gospel awards for her publication, Moore Gospel Magazine, and marketing and media contributions.  Moore’s also married to Pastor David Moore Sr. at Victory Worship Center, 437 Rudisill Street, where she serves with her husband in ministry.
