Wayne High School graduate and Indianapolis-based filmmaker Lisa Maydwell screened her short film “Cooper’s Plantation” at the Circle City Film Festival on September 29, 2018, in Indianapolis.  “Cooper’s Plantation” a period-piece love story filmed on location in Russellville, Kentucky. Another short of hers, “Cooking with Munchies” was also screened.  Not her first film festival screening, and won’t be her last, Maydwell said it “was an honor to be accepted into the Circle City Film Festival,” the annual event, sponsored by award-winning actress and producer Rasheeda Randall, that is now accepting submissions for 2019.

Maydwell and the Circle City Film Festival were highlighted in the Issue 14 | September 6, 2018 edition of the FWIS.  This is the filmmaker’s follow-up.

Fort Wayne Ink Spot (FWIS): How was your experience at the Circle City Film Festival?

Lisa Maydwell: My experience was a positive one.  I received so much support from people in the community.  My show was one of the top attended films.  I didn’t win [a prize], but the exposure and networking opportunities were well worth entering.  People were impressed with the acting and the storyline.  I continue to receive rave reviews.

Did you have a chance to attend any of the other screenings and panels?

Maydwell: I attended a majority of the panels and several screenings.  There were some amazing movies presented at the festival, and the filmmakers were so personable.  I connected with writer and director Duane Lloyd and he invited me to be on his team for his next feature.

What have you been working on since the festival?

Maydwell: I’m currently in preproduction with Dream Empire Productions to film “The Forgotten Timeplace.”  The book was written was Joyce Licorish, and I wrote the screenplay.  We plan to film in Covington, Georgia in July of this year.  We are still casting some of the smaller roles and some new crew members as well.  While in Atlanta this summer I wrote a screenplay and co-directed “Trappin” for Christmas, a comedy inspired by Midnight Black, a successful music producer who lives in Atlanta.  I’m also on the crew of the “Submerge” series, written and directed by Demetrious Witherspoon and writing the screenplay for the book written by my sister Lori Maydwell called “Shattered Perceptions.”

Where can people follow you?

Maydwell: If you would like to follow my progress and show your support, follow me on Facebook (Maydwell Productions, Lisa Maydwell, Vegan Soul, and Cooking with Munchies).  Instagram: MaydwellLisa, Twitter: Lisa Maydwell, and my website, LisaMaydwell.com.
