Thank You Fred!

After 19 months with us, Fred McKissack, our Managing Editor is returning to a position at the Journal Gazette as editorial page editor. He has led the paper and staff through tough times with the pandemic. We have added writers and expanded our structure and creativity throughout his time with us.

Said John Dortch, the paper's owner, “Fred has been the right person at the right time and I appreciate all that was done and the commitment made to get the paper where it is”.

We wish Fred well in his new endeavor and are thankful for his time with us at Ink Spot!

Here are a few small notes from the Ink Spot staff:

Just wanted to pass on well wishes to Fred McKissack and thank him for his guidance and leadership towards me as I "learned" how to become a writer. His patience and understanding of where I was in this process gave me the boost that I needed to push forward in my desire to be the very best version of myself in this field. Thank you Fred for all that you've done for this newspaper and my God Bless you in your new endeavors!

I'm so grateful for the times we worked together at the Ink Spot. We bounced ideas off one another, discussed ways to approach topics, and sometimes just talked about issues in the community and our nation. I'll miss those times. Your journalism experience and professional news judgment were a blessing for this paper and this city. Plus, you're just a nice guy -- and funny, too! A master of quips, you added a dose of humor and camaraderie to staff meetings. Of course, I wish you the best in your next endeavor. But I will miss your presence in this space.
