Dressed to Impress

By Tabitha Ervin, Editorial Director

Recently I was able to talk with as well as have the “Dressed Experience” of a Curly Cut and set which included a trim, shampoo and detox, condition, steam treatment and curl lesson. I left the salon feeling like a million bucks armed with new tips on how to style and care for my natural curls!

Shampree Williams has 16 years in the hair business doing mostly natural hair since 2010. Over the last two years, she got more focused on natural curls and cut her own hair as part of the learning process. She also took classes and got a mentor who resides in Indianapolis. Shampree was doing hair in her home salon the last two years and now she has relocated outside of the home with the intent to grow her business and plant herself in the curly community of Fort Wayne and beyond.

As a wife and mother who has mostly stayed home to focus on her 4 children, she is excited about her new business venture and focus. We discussed her focus and philosophy in our time together!

Ervin: So this has been a great experience for me at your salon, tell me more about your goals?

Williams: I want to help people learn how to do their natural hair and be a benefit to our community focused on coily, curly and wavy hair. I am big on hair care education and that seems to be lacking in the black community especially for people wearing their natural curls.

We have to re-learn how to take care of our hair knowing it isn’t a hairstyle but a lifestyle. We have to change the way we think, the way we care for our hair and our products to make sure our hair is healthy. Not all natural hair is the same and individuals' hair will change throughout the journey.

Ervin: This is awesome and inspiring! Tell me what makes your salon unique?

Williams: Dressed curls is a judgement free zone and I want to join people on their hair care journey as they learn how to care for their hair at home, once people leave the salon. I want to have an environment where hair is celebrated. Where people can be intentional about their curls and have healthy vibrant hair.

Ervin: Thank you for this incredible experience and conversation! Where can people find you and book their appointment?

Williams: I am taking clients 3 days during the week, 10am-6pm and Saturdays 8am-3pm by appointments only. My booking site is dressedcurls.com and I can be found on Facebook @thedressedcurls and Instagram@dressedcurls.

Ervin: Thank you for your time and my amazing Dressed Curls Experience! Readers please check her out if you are interested in a dynamic experience where you will leave with more knowledge and information about how to care for your natural curls!
