Touch Care Ministries
The Spearman Family moved to Fort Wayne 6 years ago as they were led to start a new ministry here. They have been in ministry for over 40 years starting in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The church, Kingdom First, located at 1101 McKinnie Ave. is led by Senior Pastor David Spearman and Prophetess Donna Spearman who moved here with approximately 50% of their previous congregation.
They are enjoying their time here in Fort Wayne while continuing to learn and serve the community and building relationships.
Donna serves as the CEO of Touch Care Ministry which is a 501c3 outreach community center, delivering a variety of services and collaborative programing.
They have connected with Abbett Elementary School which is located in the 06 area and have supported various initiatives including providing meals for staff meetings, and an initiative for 4th grade Spanish speaking students.
Touch Care and Kingdom First has and will continue working with the United Way concerning the Stronger Neighborhood Initiative which is set to build stronger neighborhoods in the 06 area of Fort Wayne. This past spring we collaborated with United Way, Bridge of Grace, Fellowship Church, and the Petitt/Rudisill Neighborhood Association to bring forth a fun and informative “Block Party” which had over 200-300 people in attendance on the grounds of Kingdom First/Touch Care Ministry.
Other initiatives hosted by Touch Care and Kingdom First were COVID 19 and Booster clinics with Neighborhood Health, a 3 week cooking class presented by Out of a Jam, hosted by Kingdom First and Touch Care for students 8-12 years. The church is looking forward to continue working with Bernie and Paula Kaufman and their Out of a Jam program with having a full kitchen and fellowship hall in the building which can be used year round. From June of 2022 - November of 2022 the Ronald McDonald Clinic from Parkview Health will be present on the grounds to supply clinic services to children 0-18 years of age, the services are offered every 4th Monday of the month from 9am - 4pm.
In July there was such great success they ran out of appointments and had to set some for other sites, the services are free to those in need. Vaccinations and well child checks were rendered along with other services that the patients could receive at brick and mortar clinics. This service makes it more convenient for families because the mobile clinic comes to them in their community.
The vision for the community center is to eventually build a new building so they can utilize 36,000 square feet of space for various programs which will house a clinic, Boys and Girls Club, a gym, a small grocery store and they would like to invite other like minded organizations to join in the project to build up the area with needed services. Touch Care started this venture in 2020 and has already begun fundraising and connecting with others who would like to join our venture, first stage plans have been developed with MKS. They look to complete this project by 2024.
Donna’s vision and heart for young people led her to start with the creation of this center in Fort Wayne. When the Spearman’s and the members of the church were in Grand Rapids they had a Child Development Center licensed to serve 75 children. Donna wants to continue to follow her heart by touching and encouraging the hearts and needs of children and seniors through Touch Care. This can only be done by bringing programs to those in the community who may not otherwise have access. She is committed to building a community within the community so that people can get to know their neighbors and work together to support and change the 06 area starting with the Pettit/ Rudisill area.
On Sunday, August 7 they will host their annual Back to School Blessings event after their service at 10am. All are invited and there will be food for the first 200 people, face painting, photo booth and music for all who wish to attend.
