Kudos, Neighborhood Health

An innovative program that provides critical dental services to Fort Wayne Community Schools students has earned Neighborhood Health statewide recognition.

The organization’s Dental Sealant program, which has provided on-site dental care to students for more than 20 years, received the Indiana Primary Health Care Association's 2021 Special Exemplary Project Award. The IPHCA noted Neighborhood Health’s enhanced efforts in administering its Dental Sealant program during the 2020-21 school year despite the many in-school restrictions and protocols caused by COVID-19.

Neighborhood Health began its Dental Sealant program in 2000 and has since expanded it to 35 mostly low-income elementary and middle schools serving approximately 2500 students each year. Regardless of insurance status, parents can enroll their students for dental services on the days the program team visits their child’s school. Each child receives a dental exam, fluoride treatment, and, if necessary, sealants. For more information on this or other Neighborhood Health services, visit mynhfw.org or call 260-458-2641.

New Houses for Southeast

The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division and Mayor Tom Henry today announced a partnership between Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne UNITED’s TenPoint Coalition to bring the construction of new houses to southeast Fort Wayne.

The City’s Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services provided a grant to help fund the construction of two new homes—722 and 802 Drexel Avenue in the Oxford neighborhood across from Weisser Park elementary. This will continue community revitalization efforts in the area. The homes will be built following the neighborhood’s historical designation.

The homes were designed by MSKTD and Associates and will be 1,100 square feet, with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. There will be a crawlspace and an 8x8’shed on the property. Both homes will be ready for occupancy by February 2022. The organization will be selecting a family to move into the home in the next 3 to 6 months.
