Riverfront Meeting
An innovative program that provides critical dental services to Fort Wayne Community Schools students has earned Neighborhood Health statewide recognition.
The organization’s Dental Sealant program, which has provided on-site dental care to students for more than 20 years, received the Indiana Primary Health Care Association's 2021 Special Exemplary Project Award. The IPHCA noted Neighborhood Health’s enhanced efforts in administering its Dental Sealant program during the 2020-21 school year despite the many in-school restrictions and protocols caused by COVID-19.
Neighborhood Health began its Dental Sealant program in 2000 and has since expanded it to 35 mostly low-income elementary and middle schools serving approximately 2500 students each year. Regardless of insurance status, parents can enroll their students for dental services on the days the program team visits their child’s school. Each child receives a dental exam, fluoride treatment, and, if necessary, sealants. For more information on this or other Neighborhood Health services, visit mynhfw.org or call 260-458-2641.
New Home Team-Up
With a grant from the city of Fort Wayne, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne UNITED’s TenPoint Coalition will construct two new houses in southeast Fort Wayne.
Housing and Neighborhood Services provided a grant to help fund the construction of two new homes—722 and 802 Drexel Avenue in the Oxford neighborhood across from Weisser Park elementary. This will continue community revitalization efforts in the area. The homes will be built in accordance with the neighborhood’s historical designation.
Selecting a family to move into a home will come in the next three to six months.
