Wright To Guide Joshua's Hand For Now
Remound Wright has been named Interim Executive Director of Joshua’s Hand, Fort Wayne’s community development organization focused on housing and workforce development.Wright succeeds Cedric Walker, founding CEO of Joshua’s Hand and pastor of Joshua’s Temple Missionary Baptist Church. Walker is retiring after 33 years of ministry.
“Prophet Walker cast the original vision for Joshua’s Hand and has worked tenaciously to empower individuals and families, improve housing, and create socioeconomic opportunities in southeast Fort Wayne,” said Tug Pierson, board chair. “We’re grateful for that legacy, and we look forward to great things ahead.”
Wright’s first task will be to work with the board to complete an ongoing strategic planning process. For Wright, it is familiar territory. For the past two years, as principal and co-founder of Wright Business Advisors, LLC, he has served as Director, Business Development for Joshua’s Hand. As a business strategist, Wright has consulted with diverse for-profit and not-for-profit entities such as Kraft Trucking, Jefferson Letter Service, Blue Water Mortgage, Athletes with Purpose, and Unity Performing Art Foundation.
Before forming his consultancy practice, and Wright was the inaugural Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence at The Northeast Indiana Innovation Center. Early in his career Wright enjoyed financial accounting and corporate assignments with Deloitte, Westinghouse and Phelps Dodge. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Michigan University and his M.B.A from the A. J. Palumbo Graduate School of Business at Duquesne University.
Focused on creating economic opportunity in southeast Fort Wayne, Joshua’s Hand is committed to “empowering individuals, families, and business to transcend hardships and create positive opportunities though socioeconomic programming and initiatives.”
Black Chamber Presents Wealth Building Seminar
The public is invited to the October 20 meeting of the Fort Wayne Black Chamber of Commerce at the Public Safety Academy to learn about "Wealth Building in the 21st Century." Beginning at 6:30 pm, this one-hour session will include members from Edward D. Jones and other financial institutions who will discuss ways of developing sustainable growth. Mask Up, Vax Up
Masks will be required, regardless of vaccination status, at all City of Fort Wayne-owned facilities, which include Citizens Square, the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission office, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department office, Parks and Recreation pavilions, community centers, youth centers, the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, and Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control’s facility.
In addition, City of Fort Wayne employees who are fully vaccinated or become fully vaccinated will receive a $200 wellness incentive. Employees can voluntarily provide written proof of vaccination status to the City of Fort Wayne’s Risk Management Department. By State of Indiana law, the City of Fort Wayne isn’t able to require proof of City employees having received the COVID-19 vaccine.
New Walking Path
If you are looking for a place to walk in southeast Fort Wayne, take a stroll — or skip, jog, run — on the new half-mile walking path in the Mount Vernon Neighborhood. The trail includes several colorful crosswalks and murals.
The new path was created through the assistance of the neighborhood association, Bridge of Grace Compassionate Ministries Center, the City of Fort Wayne, and the Purdue Fort Wayne Active Transportation Coalition. Shedding unwanted pounds and improving mental health can occur with 30 minutes of exercise three to five days a week, along with healthy eating.
