A TITAN in the music and entertainment industry quietly passed last month. Quincy Jones, (known to many as ‘Q,’) passed on November 3, 2024, from pancreatic cancer leaving a gaping hole in the hearts of many of us that enjoyed his gifts that he shared with the world.

COACH RAY SIMS. When I think about, or hear his name spoken it brings back many memories of the numerous battles that he and I had when he coached at Snider High School while I was roaming the sidelines at Elmhurst High School.
Well they’re over! The flames have been vanquished, medals awarded, and the 2024 Olympic Games are now history! I don’t know about you out there that are reading this, but I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this event! I became a fan of sports that I wouldn’t have DREAMED of being a part of just because it was the OLYMPICS!
The Olympic Games are considered the world's foremost sports competition with more than 200 teams, representing sovereign states and territories, participating. The Games substitute for any world championships during the year in which they take place and allows athletes to come together in one central location to participate in 26 different athletic events in the course of about 2 weeks to determine which athletes or teams are considered the “Worlds Best!”
One of the toughest things to do for a high school student to do is try to juggle sports (and the demands of that) along with trying to manage your academics and keep your grades at the level that not only your parents expect, but you as a student/athlete expect as well.
“You have to be in control of your life and know who’s on your bus. There may be times that you have to let folks off of your bus if they’re not going in the same direction as you are, which can be tough, but important to your growth and maturity...”
I’ve been very fortunate to spend time with so many people/personalities that have not only impacted me but our community as well. Local leaders, artists, entrepreneurs and many others have graced the pages of Fort Wayne InkSpot during the time that I have been a part of this amazing newspaper, with their stories of “How they got to this point in their lives” and what it took to achieve their various successes.
