Stop the Ban, Make a Plan. What do you think will be banned in 2025? Think about what America can lose. The celebration of Black History month, Dia De Los Muertos, Indigenous People’s Day, Women's History Month, Martin Luther King Day, Juneteenth, and the list goes on.
First, February is a historical month for people of African American descent. In 1926 Carter G. Woodson started “Negro History Week” which later led to Black History Month. President Gerald Ford designated February for Black History Month in 1976. Black History Month is significant because it is a time to honor and celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of African Americans throughout history. This encourages understanding of African Americans' fight for equality, and motivates future generations by showcasing Black excellence in various ways.
Next, Black History is American History. America was built on the backs of free labor. African Americans who were enslaved by their masters mined sandstone from nearby quarries, constructed the Smithsonian Museum, the White House, and the US Capitol, just to name a few. Now, in 2025 the United States President is trying to erase the historical contributions and curriculum of African American History in schools and universities. The historical place in which the President resides was built with the hands of those who were Black and enslaved. They built the HOUSE they could only enter through the back door.
Finally, what is the Plan to Stop the Ban?What can you do, What can we do, as an UBUNTU (I Am because WE are) community so that our African American history will live forever?
As African Americans we should take the time to acknowledge all of the sacrifices that our ancestors made for us.
STOP THE BAN AND DEVISE A PLAN!
