10% of the proceeds raised at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Wayne’s latest chili cook-off were donated to the African/African American Historical Society and Museum (AAAHSM). Leah Reeder, AAAHSM Board Director, was in attendance.

A total of $200 was donated to the African American museum. The sum was a combination of money from the cook-off and 10% of all offering collected during the UUC’s third Sunday service.

The decision to give to the AAAHSM sprung from discussions by UUC’s racial justice group, according to 2018 Congregational President Rebecca Reeder. Before starting their own community-based efforts, however, Reeder felt the group needed to inform themselves. “It was not wise on our part to start something when there are already things going on in community.”

The UUC’s exploration started with a tour at the AAAHSM during Black History Month.
