Slavery ended around 155 years ago, but it’s closer to home than we think because our ancestors were enslaved in 1771 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This was 23 years before the city was officially founded, so in honor of Black History Month, let’s explore the story of our roots.

Metro Youth Sports celebrated their 50 year anniversary of serving youth in Fort Wayne with a Jamboree hosted at Northrop High School and the organization was honored at the Indiana Black Expo Fort Wayne Chapter’s White Party over the weekend. HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its annual regional athletes and coaches of the year awards for indoor track and field and among the list of honorees includes Huntington senior Erica Xayarath.

On the Sunday morning of September 15, 1963, Sarah Collins and her sister, Addie Mae Collins, were in the Ladies Lounge in the basement of the 16th Street Baptist Church. The sisters, along with three other girls, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley, and Denise McNair were preparing for the Youth Service program and then an explosion happened.
Lifeline Academy was founded on October 20, 2022 and the organization provides high quality training for individuals seeking to be a CNA or QMA. Last week a few new individuals graduated from the program. Last week a few new individuals graduated from the program. They are: Bryson Smith-Wilson. He was enrolled in the 6 week CNA program.
Fox Lake is a national historic district located in Steuben County, Indiana. Established in 1927 with a rich history of black families for 3-4 generations, it developed between 1928 and 1950 as a vacation resort for middle class African-Americans. The cottages are primarily one-story, frame dwellings with gable roofs and concrete block foundations. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
