November is Prematurity Awareness Month, a time to shine a global spotlight on the pressing challenges of maternal and infant health across the United States, including right here in Allen County. Each year, 1 in 10 babies are born prematurely in Allen County, a staggering figure that highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and action.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so I did a little research on the history and background of the month. Many of us know or have been personally affected by this disease for many years now. Locally, the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is Saturday, October 26 at Parkview Field.

This day can either provide joy or sadness, it can provide hope or despair.

Vaping is the new cigarette for teens. The nicotine inside of these vapes is detrimental to not only physical health but mental health as well. These effects are more harmful than helpful. Bringing awareness to these mental health effects can help teens stop vaping, teach adults more about these smoking devices, or encourage teens not even to start vaping in the first place.

According to Catholic Charities, between its immigration and refugee services, approximately 25,000 immigrants currently reside in Allen County, representing almost 80% of the population growth for the period between 2015 and 2019. In that time, the immigration population increased by 12.6%, with over 3,000 new immigrants arriving to the county.
